An Anniversary and Free Books

February8My anniversary is here again.

Three years ago today, I sat down and began writing my first book.

It’s been a wild ride. The ups are full of laughter, and I have a ball while I write. The downs have been rough, and I’ve wanted to quit several times. However, the downs fade away, and I always come back to writing with a renewed sense of joy and enthusiasm.

But enough about me. Here are some other things that also share the date of February 8:

Who can forget that “I’m Too Sexy (for my shirt)” by Right Said Fred peaked at #1 in 1992. (Oh, wait. We all can – and did.)

James Dean was born on this day in 1931. (I’ve never seen a James Dean movie.)

February 8 is National Laugh and Get Rich Day (Buy your lottery tickets!)

If you are an Aquarius, here is part of your horoscope for today. … aquarius“Just when you thought something was going your way, you realize it’s not going your way at all.” (Glad I’m not an Aquarius today.)

In 1994, Jack Nicholson used a golf club to attack a car. (The driver laughed and got rich to the tune of half a million dollars.)

On television tonight: The premier of Better Call Saul – a spinoff of Breaking Bad. Casablanca is on TCM. CBS has The Grammy Awards with host James Todd Smith. (I’ll be reading with The Grammys on in the background, because The Good Wife has been preempted – again.)

Finally, to celebrate my anniversary, let’s give away some books! There are ten books to choose from. You can see them all on my Breezy Books website. When you leave a comment here, tell me which one you’d like, and I’ll email a code to you from Smashwords. You can grab the book in the format of your choice for free! If you prefer to email your request to me, my email address is on my About page.

Have a great February 8. I am definitely going to do some writing!

  1. A huge congrats, Maddie! Ups and downs aside, a writer is always a writer. And you always will be. Cheers to being a wordsmith — for the last three years and all of those ahead 😉

  2. Happy Anniversary! You certainly have been a prolific writer. I wish. Could get my writing mojo back. For now, I’ll just enjoy reading. And since you offered, I’d love to read Murder Under Construction. Thanks!

  3. It’s a conspiracy–I’ve typed this comment twice and both times the computer ate it. Congratulations on your anniversary! Today is also my friend and co-worker, Dan’s, birthday. I remember “II’m Too Sexy for my Shirt,” but I remember “Ro You Think I’m Sexy” by Rod Stewart more because a guy I used to work with, Reggie, sang it all the time.
On National Laugh and Get Rich Day, I need to hang out with my friend, Greg, and buy lottery tickets (then we can laugh all the way to the bank–LOL).
    Cheers!

    • Happy Birthday to Dan! I remember Do You Think I’m Sexy because my mother bought the record and played it all the time. She was a Rod Stewart fan. I’m off to grab a lottery ticket for today! 🙂

      • Grrrrr……………….4th time typing this comment. Good luck with the lottery. If I win, I am getting a new computer and giving this one to Greg (although I don’t think he’d want it). Love Rod Stewart–forgot to say that I’d like Book 3 of the Two Sisters and a Journalist books since it’s the only one of yours I don’t have.

    • Chrystal! So nice to see you here! Yes, only three years. I was absolutely clueless in the beginning. That poor Sunshine Hunter has been “fixed” and republished more times than I can shake a stick at. My work certainly isn’t great literature, but I’m happy putting out books that (I hope) entertain. 🙂

Murder is Where the Heart Is. I’ll get that to you soon! Thank you for reading!

(A first comment always has to be approved. I haven’t been able to log on until a few minutes ago. Seeing you was a nice surprise!)

  4. It’s amazing to think of how many books you’ve written in three years. Such an accomplishment. Free book? Did someone say free book? Since I recently bought #2 in the Two Sisters and a Journalist series, I’d love #3. Thank you! How nice!

By the way, I’m missing The Good Wife, too. Time for a new episode, CBS.

    • Hi, Sylvia! I love Florida, too. I went fishing in the Atlantic on one of my trips. We really did catch a shark (a hammerhead), brought it on board, and I was scared to death while hugging a life vest. The shark ended up on my wall at home until it fell off and broke years later. The conversation between Susan and the first mate was nearly identical to the one I had with the first mate on our boat.

My mother and my sister have been my biggest fans. Of the Susan Hunter books, they both like Sin City Hunter best. I’ll get that to you soon! Thank you so much for reading!

  5. Congrats to you! I just started your last of the first series two nights ago. (Buckeye) I love the way you jump right into it! A real page turner.

As for The Good Wife….ugh. 🙂

I will send you an e-mail a bit later….as you know I must complete ALL of your books! #Maddiefan
    Hugs and thanks ♥

    • You have been wonderful, Paula! Thank you so much for reading all of my books. I caught the first few episodes of The Good Wife and got hooked. I’m not usually one for dramas on television, but this one sucked me in. Looking forward to your email. 🙂

  6. Maddie!!!! Happy anniversary my friend! I’m so glad you are popping up here from time to time now! I’ve sent you an email yesterday before you posted so I didn’t ask for a book. I can’t decide on Buckeye Hunter or Maple Leaf Hunter. So surprise me! 🙂

    • Looking forward to the next book–just finished “Murder is Where the Heart Is.” I really want some pie. Does Jackie ever make Dutch Apple? There was a restaurant near where I used to work that had the best Dutch Apple pie.
Greg has a computer, but it’s old, so I thought he might like a newer one. But this one would probably give him a heart attack.

      • LOL! I’ll have her make Dutch Apple in the next book. She’s famous for her fruit pies. We are near Amish country, and all the restaurants serve Dutch Apple. We have heart attack computers here, so I know what you mean. 🙂

    • Thank you, Jackie! Because you’ve been reading Murder Welcomes You to Buxley, and Buckeye Hunter is the parallel story, I’m sending Maple Leaf Hunter your way! Got your email; will write soon!

        • Got the book, Maddie, thanks! Right now I’m reading a pirate romance and a chick lit book where the author killed off the heroine’s cat. Ordinarily, I’d have stopped reading, but the book is good (except for that–that’s just not cool).
Can’t wait to “taste” Jackie’s Dutch Apple Pie–LOL!

          • I’ll be sure to give special attention and detail to the Dutch Apple Pie. 🙂 And I’ll want to have someone named Nancy in the vicinity to get a piece of that pie, too! Oh wait!! How cool is this!! I already named the receptionist at Jo’s new office – Nancy! She makes her first appearance in Murder Welcomes You to Buxley. HA! Nancy will get that Dutch Apple Pie for sure!!

  7. Congratulations! Funny that you posted that about buying a lottery ticket. I had not read that until after I had bought one. Hope it is lucky! 🙂 I would love to read Windy City Hunter! 🙂 Thank you so much! I really enjoy your writing and I am so glad you are back to blogging. 🙂 Have a great week ahead!

  8. Congrats Maddie! I’ve been a terrible friend & am sorely behind in reading. I also owe you an email. In spite of my poor communication, I’m still very proud of you!! Look at all the books you have published now! That’s no small feat! 😀

    • Sweet, DD, you could never be a terrible friend. Although we don’t communicate as often as I’d like (no fault of either of us), I will forever consider you a dear friend. There is no hurry to write an email. I fully understand how life gets in the way. I’m just glad we continue to cross paths in the blogosphere. 🙂

I can hardly believe the number of books myself. In the past year, I’ve gone back through all the Susan Hunter books and made a million corrections to commas, fixed a few typos, and restructured some sentences. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned in three years, and I hope my writing will get better as I keep running headlong down this path. 🙂

Thank you for being a friend and for being so supportive. I appreciate you.
