Three years ago today, I sat down and began writing my first book.
It’s been a wild ride. The ups are full of laughter, and I have a ball while I write. The downs have been rough, and I’ve wanted to quit several times. However, the downs fade away, and I always come back to writing with a renewed sense of joy and enthusiasm.
But enough about me. Here are some other things that also share the date of February 8:
Who can forget that “I’m Too Sexy (for my shirt)” by Right Said Fred peaked at #1 in 1992. (Oh, wait. We all can – and did.)
James Dean was born on this day in 1931. (I’ve never seen a James Dean movie.)
February 8 is National Laugh and Get Rich Day (Buy your lottery tickets!)
If you are an Aquarius, here is part of your horoscope for today. … “Just when you thought something was going your way, you realize it’s not going your way at all.” (Glad I’m not an Aquarius today.)
In 1994, Jack Nicholson used a golf club to attack a car. (The driver laughed and got rich to the tune of half a million dollars.)
On television tonight: The premier of Better Call Saul – a spinoff of Breaking Bad. Casablanca is on TCM. CBS has The Grammy Awards with host James Todd Smith. (I’ll be reading with The Grammys on in the background, because The Good Wife has been preempted – again.)
Finally, to celebrate my anniversary, let’s give away some books! There are ten books to choose from. You can see them all on my Breezy Books website. When you leave a comment here, tell me which one you’d like, and I’ll email a code to you from Smashwords. You can grab the book in the format of your choice for free! If you prefer to email your request to me, my email address is on my About page.
Have a great February 8. I am definitely going to do some writing!
A huge congrats, Maddie! Ups and downs aside, a writer is always a writer. And you always will be. Cheers to being a wordsmith — for the last three years and all of those ahead 😉
Thank you, Ned. I appreciate your kind words!
Long time no hear. I think WP stopped sending me updates, and I only by chance saw this post.
Congratulations.
Thank you, Emilio! I disappeared for a while, and so did most of my follow list. I have you back on my radar now. 🙂
Congrats, and many more to come 🙂
Thank you! I’m sure I’ll find some photos to inspire me at your blog. 🙂
Hopefully so, i was quit pleased with the motorcycle racing, came out quite well, perhaps a motorcycle adventure of some sort?
I’ll haven’t yet seen the motorcycle racing. I’ll look soon. I did have my villain riding a motorcycle – in the winter – in my last book. Ooh, and Mama’s boyfriend rides a Harley. I could do something with that. 😉
Right on, write on 🙂
Thank you!!
You’re welcome.
Happy Anniversary! You certainly have been a prolific writer. I wish. Could get my writing mojo back. For now, I’ll just enjoy reading. And since you offered, I’d love to read Murder Under Construction. Thanks!
Coming right up!! Thank you!
It’s a conspiracy–I’ve typed this comment twice and both times the computer ate it. Congratulations on your anniversary! Today is also my friend and co-worker, Dan’s, birthday. I remember “II’m Too Sexy for my Shirt,” but I remember “Ro You Think I’m Sexy” by Rod Stewart more because a guy I used to work with, Reggie, sang it all the time.
On National Laugh and Get Rich Day, I need to hang out with my friend, Greg, and buy lottery tickets (then we can laugh all the way to the bank–LOL).
Cheers!
Happy Birthday to Dan! I remember Do You Think I’m Sexy because my mother bought the record and played it all the time. She was a Rod Stewart fan. I’m off to grab a lottery ticket for today! 🙂
Grrrrr……………….4th time typing this comment. Good luck with the lottery. If I win, I am getting a new computer and giving this one to Greg (although I don’t think he’d want it). Love Rod Stewart–forgot to say that I’d like Book 3 of the Two Sisters and a Journalist books since it’s the only one of yours I don’t have.
I’m so glad I can get a book to you! Look for Murder Welcomes You to Buxley later today. Greg might be surprised how much he likes a computer once he has one. 😉 Win the lottery!
I can’t believe you’ve only been writing three years! Wow. How about Murder is Where the Heart Is?
Chrystal! So nice to see you here! Yes, only three years. I was absolutely clueless in the beginning. That poor Sunshine Hunter has been “fixed” and republished more times than I can shake a stick at. My work certainly isn’t great literature, but I’m happy putting out books that (I hope) entertain. 🙂
Murder is Where the Heart Is. I’ll get that to you soon! Thank you for reading!
(A first comment always has to be approved. I haven’t been able to log on until a few minutes ago. Seeing you was a nice surprise!)
It’s amazing to think of how many books you’ve written in three years. Such an accomplishment. Free book? Did someone say free book? Since I recently bought #2 in the Two Sisters and a Journalist series, I’d love #3. Thank you! How nice!
By the way, I’m missing The Good Wife, too. Time for a new episode, CBS.
I honestly think it’s because I have so much time on my hands, and am able to write all throughout the day and night, that I am able to accomplish what I want.
#3 – Welcome to Buxley – coming to a Kindle near you soon!
That’s great. Thank you!
Just downloaded my copy. Thank you again!!
You’re welcome! I love giving away books! 🙂
Somehow my comment isn’t here, but again WOW on three years of writing. That’s an amazing amount of good output! Thank you for the reading pleasure.
You’re all fixed now. Thank you again!
I would like Sin City Hunter. I really liked Sunshine Hunter, since it took place in Florida and that is my favorite vacation destination.
Hi, Sylvia! I love Florida, too. I went fishing in the Atlantic on one of my trips. We really did catch a shark (a hammerhead), brought it on board, and I was scared to death while hugging a life vest. The shark ended up on my wall at home until it fell off and broke years later. The conversation between Susan and the first mate was nearly identical to the one I had with the first mate on our boat.
My mother and my sister have been my biggest fans. Of the Susan Hunter books, they both like Sin City Hunter best. I’ll get that to you soon! Thank you so much for reading!
Congrats to you! I just started your last of the first series two nights ago. (Buckeye) I love the way you jump right into it! A real page turner.
As for The Good Wife….ugh. 🙂
I will send you an e-mail a bit later….as you know I must complete ALL of your books! #Maddiefan
Hugs and thanks ♥
You have been wonderful, Paula! Thank you so much for reading all of my books. I caught the first few episodes of The Good Wife and got hooked. I’m not usually one for dramas on television, but this one sucked me in. Looking forward to your email. 🙂
Way to go Maddie! And I’m looking forward to many more good things from you. #Maddiefanforever 🙂
You are great, Mike! You’ve certainly given me a lot of encouragement all along the way. I appreciate it more than you know. Thank you!
I need to get motivated 🙂
Yes, you do! I think your idea for your book is stellar. I want to keep reading it! You motivate me; now motivate yourself! Are you playing too much golf? Too much racquetball? 😉
To much work lol not an excuse though.
Happy anniversary! …and I say that meaningfully, not just to get a free Brezzy Book 🙂
Thank you, Steve! I know you mean it. 🙂 If you haven’t sent an email to let me know which book you want, please do! Or drop back here and let me know. I know you’ve read some of my earlier work. Maybe try something later and see if I’m doing better. 😉
I just sent the email. Thanks
Links and code sent to you! Thank YOU, Steve!
Just saw them, thanks.
Maddie!!!! Happy anniversary my friend! I’m so glad you are popping up here from time to time now! I’ve sent you an email yesterday before you posted so I didn’t ask for a book. I can’t decide on Buckeye Hunter or Maple Leaf Hunter. So surprise me! 🙂
Looking forward to the next book–just finished “Murder is Where the Heart Is.” I really want some pie. Does Jackie ever make Dutch Apple? There was a restaurant near where I used to work that had the best Dutch Apple pie.
Greg has a computer, but it’s old, so I thought he might like a newer one. But this one would probably give him a heart attack.
LOL! I’ll have her make Dutch Apple in the next book. She’s famous for her fruit pies. We are near Amish country, and all the restaurants serve Dutch Apple. We have heart attack computers here, so I know what you mean. 🙂
Thank you, Jackie! Because you’ve been reading Murder Welcomes You to Buxley, and Buckeye Hunter is the parallel story, I’m sending Maple Leaf Hunter your way! Got your email; will write soon!
Thank you!
I like free. Its my favorite cost. May I get a Buckeye, please?
What? You can’t go out in your backyard and pick one up?
Your Buckeye is already on its way! 🙂
Thanks! Like always, you rock!
Got the book, Maddie, thanks! Right now I’m reading a pirate romance and a chick lit book where the author killed off the heroine’s cat. Ordinarily, I’d have stopped reading, but the book is good (except for that–that’s just not cool).
Can’t wait to “taste” Jackie’s Dutch Apple Pie–LOL!
I’ll be sure to give special attention and detail to the Dutch Apple Pie. 🙂 And I’ll want to have someone named Nancy in the vicinity to get a piece of that pie, too! Oh wait!! How cool is this!! I already named the receptionist at Jo’s new office – Nancy! She makes her first appearance in Murder Welcomes You to Buxley. HA! Nancy will get that Dutch Apple Pie for sure!!
Very cool, Maddie! Yum…
Maddie, I’m reading “Murder Finds You…” and cracking up over the scene where Jo loses track of time because she’s on Pinterest. Easy to do. And I can so relate to the scene where she fell on the black ice because last year, I fell on black ice twice (two Thursdays in a row) and Greg had to do a dramatic rescue–LOL!
Your note made me smile. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book.
Thank goodness for Greg!! 🙂 I am famous for falling on ice. I would need him on speed dial.
Congratulations! Funny that you posted that about buying a lottery ticket. I had not read that until after I had bought one. Hope it is lucky! 🙂 I would love to read Windy City Hunter! 🙂 Thank you so much! I really enjoy your writing and I am so glad you are back to blogging. 🙂 Have a great week ahead!
I only had one number on my $1.00 lottery ticket tonight. I needed three to at least get $10. Better luck tomorrow. Hope you did better! 🙂
Would you prefer to read on your phone? I can send the book from Amazon. If you’d rather read on your Nook, I’ll send the Smashwords code to you.
I won a $1.00 so bought another one. 🙂 lol Amazon will be fine then I can read on my phone or the NOOK with the Kindle app. 🙂 Thank you so much. 🙂
The book is on its way! 🙂
Congrats on the milestone, Maddie! 12 years fo rme… must get bum into gear…
Thank you, Richard. I can’t imagine that I’ll still be writing in twelve years, but you never know. I thought I didn’t have more than three books in me to begin with!
I’m famous for falling on and off the ice. Greg is on speed dial and as of Friday, I gave him his own ringtone (the theme from “Taxi”)–LOL!
Perfect!! 🙂
You did amazing in such a short time. Be proud! 🙂
Congrats to you on your 3rd anniversary. You’ve really written so much in a short time. As I now live in Florida, I’d love to read #1 Sunshine Hunter, on my kindle. Thanks so much for your kind offer. Sylvia x
Hi, Sylvia! Thank you, and thank you for stopping by. 🙂
Sunshine Hunter is always free everywhere. Here is the link for you to download it from Amazon: http://amzn.to/1KRQ1kR
Could I send another book to you? Your choice! Let me know.
Thanks so much, Maddie. ‘Sin City Hunter’ also sounds really good. 🙂
The book is on its way! Look for an email from Amazon today. 🙂
Thanks so much. 😍
Congrats Maddie! I’ve been a terrible friend & am sorely behind in reading. I also owe you an email. In spite of my poor communication, I’m still very proud of you!! Look at all the books you have published now! That’s no small feat! 😀
Sweet, DD, you could never be a terrible friend. Although we don’t communicate as often as I’d like (no fault of either of us), I will forever consider you a dear friend. There is no hurry to write an email. I fully understand how life gets in the way. I’m just glad we continue to cross paths in the blogosphere. 🙂
I can hardly believe the number of books myself. In the past year, I’ve gone back through all the Susan Hunter books and made a million corrections to commas, fixed a few typos, and restructured some sentences. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned in three years, and I hope my writing will get better as I keep running headlong down this path. 🙂
Thank you for being a friend and for being so supportive. I appreciate you.
It has, the books grew with you & you’re still going. & The first one was wonderful to begin with!
